- How will you define Dhwani Karia?
I will define Dhwani Karia as somebody who is of very giving and loving nature. I feel she is here to serve everybody on this planet, I think I would be happy to serve people in whichever way it is possible for every being not just human beings.
2. How did anchoring start in your life?
I actually tried a lot of different careers, for example, I started a clothing brand, but my philosophy is why we are so materialistic, why girls are buying so many dresses and all. So, I was not actually very much satisfied with the philosophy of selling and so I was never able to market my brand. I also tried in dubbing, radio and even I used to go for 200 different dubbing studios in just 2-3 months but nobody was giving me work. I was just waiting for work for one year in my home. Then one day I was at a party and my friends were always telling people that I am very good at speaking, I have done theatres in college, etc. Then at the party, a guy came and said why don’t you come to our studio once we are doing a show for Disney and from here my journey started in the media. I learned a lot from becoming a professional anchor.
3. Your idol.
I would say, it’s Bill and Melinda Gates. Due to there foundation, Bill and Melinda gates foundation which is doing so much good for people. I also look up to Dr. APJ Abdul kalam because he is everything that you can find in a real human being, his love, care and innocence for the people. Apart from that I also look up to Mother Teresa and Princess Diana. I also look up to Gandhiji. Actually these people are like my idols in my life. But if you ask me in anchoring, I apply philosophies from these people because I think I should be more good as a human being from more good in a profession. I feel if I am 5/10 as a human and 9/10 as an anchor then it is not good. But if I have to say I look up to Roshan Abbas in anchoring. I love his philosophy and I admire the ethics of his company geometry encompass.
4. How starting an NGO for helping poor kids and animals changed you?
Well, it would be better if I answer how I started my NGO. It is a dream from my childhood, the first thing I saw on television was Mother Teresa’s Parade and I was amazed, I asked my father who she is? and he told me about Mother Teresa. I was also having giving nature, I somewhere want to become the richest person on the earth and want to adopt the whole world as children. I am also influenced by Bill and Melinda Gates foundation, then one day I joined my friend’s NGO and then I realized why don’t I do it myself I don’t want to work under somebody. I am a freelancer professional anchor, a freelancer. So, hence I started my own NGO called RECESS 5 Years ago on my birthday and I gifted it to myself. For one year, we have helped people living in slums as they don’t trust you in starting but now they tell me that Recess has made their life better and this is a wonderful feeling.
5. A thing which you learned in this journey.
I have learned many things in this journey-
- What is your intention when you are doing work, I feel like you should have a positive intention when you are doing work.
- I think honesty is the base of everything, honesty not of just with others but with yourself also. I think the universe is always observing you for whatever you are doing.
- Have a very big heart, attraction comes to people who have a big heart because anything can happen with you so be humble with every person you meet. As Buddha said, Some people suffer more, some people suffer less, We should do something for making life better for the people who suffer more. I feel the universe is our family and we should always help people and be humble with domestic workers, guards, etc, with everybody we can.
6. As we have seen you have anchored for national and international businessmen, IPL, film stars, etc. What have you seen common in these personalities?
One thing that I have seen common in all these people is that they are humble to the core, I am talking about THE people on this planet. They do not put on nice qualities, good-hearted things, etc. but what they do is genuinely good-hearted.
7. You are a beautiful woman, will you ever consider acting or modeling as a career?
Thankyou firstly, but I think every being on the universe is beautiful. I have read somewhere a story about a girl where a rat suddenly appears in her building and everybody is afraid of the rat but she was not afraid of the rat. She said that it is common for a rat to look like a rat because the rat is not ugly, the rat is the way rat is. That’s what I feel and regarding acting or modeling I have tried for a photoshoot for my website but I don’t think, I am interested in this field. I would love to be part of the cinema which is meaningful but somewhere there are very beautiful women in the industry who have worked for getting there in thousands of workshops. So, I think I don’t want to enter in such a competitive field I am happy with the anchoring but if there would be an opportunity and for that, I can do justice to that opportunity I would love to do that. But, I respect both professions as whenever I tried in these fields I feel both tasks are very difficult.
8. Your advice to youngsters.
I think there are two advices, one is to do something for somebody else every week and do something which you are passionate about every week. Take up something which you are passionate about every week and once you learn something, share it with the world because almost everybody can teach you something.
There is also a story of her security guard, which is exclusively available on the audio version.
9. Your advice for Dhwani of teenage.
Well, always put yourself in other’s people place before saying or deciding anything. This thing came to my mind when I met with a very good college friend of mine but due to her schedule she was not able to spend time with me and I felt too bad as she was my very good friend in college but later I realized it’s not her mistake it is due to the whole system of successful and unsuccessful who made it. On another note, I feel we should spend time with the people we meet and give them our time.
10. Lastly, are you happy with all this? or you want to become that no.1 anchor in India?
I am very happy because having an NGO was my dream from childhood but I do not want to become no. 1 anchor in India but I want to become no. 1 human being because a no.1 anchor can become no.2 any day but a no. 1 human will always remain no.1 human-like Sadhguru. I see achieving Nirvana as my dream now, no. 1 and 2 are just numbers but being a better human is way better. Getting applauded for your work does inspire me.
The complete conversation is attached to audio with every question.
As I always say in every interview, Dhwani will share this interview on her social media handles or on the website for proof to readers.
